1996, April, Calcite, Quartz, Anatase
The place for this discovery is in Diepalgraben, in ditch carved out by frequently running water. Here several meters long cleft can be found with calcites crystallized on both sides. This site is very wet in spring. The best time to explore is in autumn if it has not rained for a while.
The site from the front and from above. In the second photo you can still see the beginning of crystallized calcites.
This site has been worked on for a long time and was considered exploited. In April 1996, with a long chisel, I was able with surprising ease to recover some beautiful specimen from the cleft side.
The calcites are green zonal colored by the chlorite. Small needle-like quartz crystals of up to 2 cm in length sit on the matrix. Small orange anatase in the millimeter range can be found on the quartz crystals.
The specimen recovered in April 1996, with calcite, needle quartz and anatase, 26 x 19 x 7 cm
Calcite, needle quartz and anatase, 17.8 x 15.5 x 8.3 cm
Floater specimen with needle quartz, calcite and anatase, 10 x 6 x 7 cm
Calcite single crystal, 7 x 6 x 6.3 cm
