Quartz

DI 2-12, March 2003

Location:

Zederhaus, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria

Description:

This floater specimen consists of two cross-shaped inter-grown doubly terminated crystals. Smaller doubly terminated quartz crystals have grown on the two main crystals. The main crystals are characterized by three chlorite-green colored surfaces that are partially covered with a second generation of quartz crystals and chlorite. The other three surfaces show a snowy layer partially covered with a second generation of quartz crystals and small calcites. This layer reaches to the edges of the prisms where it abruptly stops. The tops are highly lustrous and transparent.
