Fluorite with Calcite
WE 20-9, September 2019
Location:
Weisseck, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
Description:
Another particularly nice specimen from this find. White calcite grew like a hood on top of the fluorite yielding an appearance of a snow coating. The faces of the cubes show an intense square texture. Although the faces are etched and show clear crevices, the gloss is very good. This specimen shows an unusual intensity under UV light, revealing a violet coloring for the violet layer just under the surface and (as far as the main part of the fluorites is concerned) an intense red-orange to pink from the colorless core; in between are spots of lilac. The calcites show a light beige color in UV light.
Size: 12.8 x 9.5 x 8 cm
