Pyrite on Matrix

Description:

This is one of my favorite pieces: all the minerals are present in this specimen which provides insight into cleft paragnesis. Many pyrites have grown on the matrix as perfect crystals with a good reddish sheen. In many areas light brown leaf-shaped calcite is covered with dark chlorite. The calcite in turn grew partially on the pyrite. In addition, small, high-gloss, water-clear quartz crystals have grown on the matrix. Small crystallized rutile can also occasionally be seen.
